DISTRICT INVOLVEMENT

The Nu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi does a great deal to actively participate and serve musicians and band programs on the University of Michigan campus. However, in addition to all of our work and involvement in Ann Arbor, we also attend North Central District events, visit with other chapters, and interact with brothers from around the country on a regular basis.

Brothers of Nu enjoy attending district events as a way of getting to meet other brothers and as a means of learning how to strengthen leadership qualities on an individual level, as well as chapter wide. The North Central District hosts different events throughout the year at different colleges and universities across the district. These events include leadership conferences, block meetings, and District Convention. On years where there is not a District Convention, the National level of Kappa Kappa Psi hosts National Convention. Our brothers have attended many of these events in the past and gained from these experiences.

Nu has been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet many brothers within KKPsi by visiting other chapters on their campuses. By attending degrees for fellow chapters in the area, our brothers have been given the wonderful experience of meeting other brothers and learning how these chapters function/how they run certain events. This collaboration and communication with other brothers from different chapters has allowed Nu to grow and expand the opportunities and programs within our own chapter.

In addition to attending degrees, many of our brothers are members of different ensembles that attend sporting events and competitions. Some of brothers who are members of the Michigan Marching Band have been able to coordinate times to meet up during or after football games in the fall with brothers from other college marching bands. This is the case for Winter Guard Ensemble members and brothers in other athletic bands such as Hockey, Volleyball, and Basketball. Meeting fellow brothers from other chapters is a wonderful opportunity to make lasting friendships, create brotherly support, and recognize the musicianship of our brothers within Kappa Kappa Psi.

Active involvement through social media, emails, and other technology further allow our brothers to interact on a district, as well as national, level. Through simple Facebook posts, Snapchat streaks, Twitter shoutouts, and sending information through email, our brothers have been able to maintain close, supportive, and effective communication with fellow brothers over distance.

All of these examples of district participation have helped create what Nu is today. It is in large part through our service and district involvement that Nu has been honored with distinction of being a finalist in the Governor’s Cup Award – an award given to the chapter within the district that goes above and beyond in performance and service to the bands while carrying out the fraternity’s ideals.
